Ilkka Virtanen
PhD
University Lecturer
My research concentrates on studies of the ionosphere, the very top of the Earth's atmosphere where also Aurora borealis, the northern lights, take place at the high latitudes. My main expertise are ionospheric radar observation techniques and the related data analysis. We conduct sophisticated ionospheric observations with, among other instruments, the EISCAT incoherent scatter radars located in the northern Fenno-Scandinavia.
