My research is focused on the utilization of industrial side-streams in different appilcations. One main topic is the nutrient uptake from wastewaters and further use of the recovered nutrients as fertilizers. In practice, the purpose is to chemically or electrochemically precipitate nutrients, for example as struvite, or to bind nutrients to sorbent materials produced from industrial sidestreams. Then, the recovered nutrients may be granulated with other nutrient-containing streams to form a granulated fertilizer. In addition, I participate in acquisition of research funding, I supervise theses, and I teach in the physical chemistry lab courses. I am also the communication officer of the Sustainable Chemistry Research Unit.
