João is a Doctoral Researcher in the group of Dr. Ali Mobasheri in the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oulu. Since June 2023, he is working on projects relating to obesity and fibrosis in osteoarthritis in the FibroHealth – Combatting Fibrosis in Chronic diseases and Fibrobesity. His research aims to enhance our understanding of pathologic mechanisms underling Obesity-induced Fibrosis in Osteoarthritis. He is also involved in several projects collaborations aimed at developing in vitro 2D and 3D co-culture systems and explore potential therapeutic interventions, stressing his research interests in translational biology.
Education
Biochemist and Biotechonolist by training, at NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA (BSc, 2017) and the Instituto Superior Técnico, ULisboa (MSc,2020).
