Johannes Kettunen

Professor Johannes Kettunen is the Scientific Director of Biocenter Oulu. He has a doctorate and a docentship in genetics. His research focuses on unifying large multiomics datasets and epidemiological data to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of common morbidities. He has led various studies in this area and published over 100 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Those papers have been cited over 18,000 times. One of his current hot topics is trying to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms behind systemic biomarkers that predict all-cause mortality, use large biobank studies in genetic epidemiology of various diseases and unraveling genetic determinants of human metabolism exemplified by an article in Nature he supervised.
