Mahesh Somani

Professor Mahesh Somani is presently leading the research activities of various EU and academy projects at UO, besides taking care of international collaborative research and supervision of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers. During his research career spanning over 41 years, Professor Somani has completed over 20 research projects and authored/co-authored over 200 technical papers and 25 technical reports and has 2 patents to his credit. Prior to this, he had an established career at the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Ministry of Defence, India during 1982-1998 as a senior scientist working in the field of aerospace materials. At UO (since 1999), his academic/research interests include physical simulation and modelling, technology of alloy steels, physical metallurgy of direct quenching, phase transformations, static and dynamic restoration mechanisms, dynamic materials modelling, and strength of metallic materials.
