Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine
I am a biology graduate, PhD and Adjunct Professor of molecular medicine. My main research interest is the ischemic and hypoxic tissue homeostasis and remodeling in cardiometabolic diseases. I have been focusing on the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways of hypoxia response and tissue homeostasis and remodelling utilizing different genetic and experimental rodent models. In addition to tissue remodeling research, I have specialized in Disease Modeling (Pathology training programme in disease modeling) and phenotyping in Helmholz Center, Munich, Germany. Currently I am working as a senior research fellow with Professor Peppi Karppinen at the Biocenter Oulu and Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and as a director of Northern Finland Biobank Borealis.
