Shuvashis Das Gupta

I am a Marie-Curie Early-Stage researcher (doctoral student) at the Research Unit of Medical Imaging, Physics and Technology (MIPT), University of Oulu, Finland. I am working under the supervision of Professor Simo Saarakkala (primary supervisor), Professor Miika Nieminen, and Professor Ashvin Thambyah. My research aims to investigate mineralized tissues (i.e., calcified cartilage and subchondral bone plate) at the osteochondral junction by applying pre-clinical microscopic imaging tools in vitro, for better understanding the osteoarthritis process. The project analyzes tissue-specific molecular composition (using Raman microspectroscopy), ultra-structure (using SAXS imaging), and biomechanics (using MEMS force acquisition system) of the osteochondral junction.

Before joining University Oulu, I have spent four years as a university lecturer at the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. During that time, I have also completed my M.Sc. degree program from the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
