Tapio Nykänen is an Associate Professor (tenure track) at the Giellagas Institute (Faculty of Humanities) and a researcher in the multidisciplinary Frontiers of Arctic and Global Resilience (FRONT) program. Working at the intersection of political sociology, political science, and cultural studies, Nykänen focuses on the resilience of Sámi culture in the age of polycrisis. His areas of expertise also include democracy, civil disobedience, activism, and the politics of Northern religions. An experienced field researcher, Nykänen emphasizes integrating community-driven perspectives with ambitious theoretical approaches.
