Timo Tuovinen

Timo Tuovinen is a postdoctoral researcher and medical specialist. His interests include digital health, translational clinical research, medical education and physician management. In addition to the above roles, Tuovinen serves as the District Chief Physician of the Finnish Medical Association in the Northern Finland region.

Tuovinen is part of the FinnTelemedicum research group investigating different aspects of the digitalization of healthcare. Tuovinen has defended his PhD in Medicine from the Oulu Functional NeuroImaging (OFNI) group. His doctoral research primarily focused on new MRI-based imaging methods of the brain's cleansing system, especially for measuring the glymphatic system. He has published 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles, two chapters in scientific books (peer-reviewed), several peer-reviewed articles in conference proceedings, as well as articles in scientific journals and publications aimed at professional audiences. He has written 26 opinion pieces or columns that have been published.

He is a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. He also has years of experience in primary care and several hospital specialties, such as neurosurgery, pediatrics, surgery and radiology. He also has years of experience teaching medicine at the University of Oulu. He has also been awarded for his contributions to both medical and social organizations, such as Duodecim, student organizations and scouts. In his own opinion, one of the most important achievements is being the father of two wonderful sons.
