Tuija Maliniemi
PhD
Postdoctoral researcher
I am a physical geographer and a plant community ecologist working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Geography Research Unit. My research is focused on exploring long-term vegetation changes in northern environments. I have focused especially on boreal forests, mountain birch forests and high-latitude tundra. The aim of my research is to understand how climate change, land use and geodiversity are connected to the observed vegetation changes and what are the resulted or potential consequences of these changes. One of my current key interests is to better understand the link between biodiversity and geodiversity and how it could assist biodiversity research and conservation.
