Biology
The English conducted 2 year Master's Programme in Ecology and Population Genetics (ECOGEN) is intended for biology students, holding a Bachelor’s degree in biology or closely related subject. The study programme starts in September each year. The program is instructed entirely in English and fully integrated with the domestic master level studies of the biology degree programme.
ECOGEN emphasises on biodiversity and conservation biology issues. It focuses on preparing students for future leadership positions in conservation biology and environmental ecology. The programme provides the students with appropriate knowledge in ecology and population genetics of plant, animal and fungal species, with emphasis on endangered species and ecosystems. Students will learn methodical skills in the field of molecular ecology and genetics. This competence is needed in the environmental administration and research in the fields of e.g. conservation biology and restoration ecology. The programme includes a non-compulsory internship period either in environmental administration or research institutes.

Architecture
The Oulu School of Architecture educates architects to the profession, providing its graduates with high level qualifications for demanding and versatile occupations within designing the built environment, as well as town and land-use planning. Mastering practical and complex design skills and using modern design tools, are main objectives of the studies in architecture.
The contents and objectives of the degree programme in architecture are based on the requirements of the European Union Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC) set for the education of architects (article 46). The current Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes of the Oulu School of Architecture have been notified by the EU commission in June 2013.
The English conducted 2 year, full-time Master's Programme in Architecture is intended for international architecture students, holding a three or four year Bachelor’s degree in architecture. The study programme starts in September each year. The program is instructed entirely in English and fully integrated with the domestic master level studies of the school.

Archeology
Studying archaeology
The primary field of study is Finland’s past and that of the world’s various continents from an anthropological perspective. A specific focus is placed on the archaeological cultural heritage of northern Finland and of other northern areas within the global context. In addition to mastering basic knowledge, the teaching focuses on universal cultural theories and research technologies pertaining to the processing of source material. A key goal of research is to offer students the ability to independently complete the process of archaeological research, which consists of gathering a dataset, analysing it, interpreting it and presenting the results in writing. The basic and intermediate studies mostly consist of theory courses and practical archaeology study modules that include inventory preparation, digging and measuring instrument exercises. The advanced studies focus mainly on archaeological theory and study modules supporting the writing of theses.
During the first year, students of archaeology attend courses together with students of cultural anthropology. The students will not choose their major until the end of their first year. The degree of Bachelor of Arts (BA) consists of basic and intermediate studies and studies in the student’s minor subject. Its minimum scope is 180 credits and its maximum scope is 190 credits. After the BA degree, a student may continue their studies to become a Master of Arts (MA). The minimum scope of this degree is 120 credits and the maximum scope is 130 credits.
