Becoming aware of the technological. Commentaries on social media in Finnish literary fiction 2000–2020

Hanna Huhtinen's (M. A.) dissertation "Becoming aware of the technological. Commentaries on social media in Finnish literary fiction 2000–2020" shows a critical description of the conflicts and disturbances caused by social media in Finnish literary fiction of the 21st century.

The topic of the research is social media in Finnish literary fiction from the 2000s. The research explores how Finnish contemporary literature reacts to social media and what kind of tasks the description of social media as part of literary fiction has.

The dissertation shows that in the literary fiction about social media, the spread of digital culture as part of an individual's everyday life is seen as a reality, but on the other hand, the aim is to create a critical perception regarding the changes in the media landscape.

All in all, the literary fiction about social media renews Finnish literary expression by taking a stand in the social debate about the use of social media and digital culture.
