Commencement of nutrition support during critical illness and after major surgery

In the present thesis we studied nutrition among critically ill patients with emergency admission to intensive care unit and among patients recovering form emergency laparotomy or surgery from head and neck cancer in surgical ward. In all study groups nutrition was often underprescribed and nutrition intakes were generally low. Better nutrition intake was associated to improved outcomes among all study groups. The theis was conducted in Oulu University hospital and was formed from series of 4 retrospective register studies
