Welcome to the Oulu Botanical Garden!

The Botanical Garden of the University of Oulu is one of the northernmost scientific gardens in the world. Botanical Garden collection of plants is maintained for teaching and research purposes and it is open to the public.

Plant collections

Collections include more than 4,000 different plant species and provide an overview of global vegetation diversity. Botanical Garden is also a testing and experimental area for many new and rare plants.

The landmark of the Oulu Botanical Garden are the pyramid-shaped greenhouses Romeo and Julia where about 1,200 exotic plant species are presented. Science Garden of the University of Oulu is also located here.

Science garden

A science exhibition has been launched in the lobby area of the Botanical Gardens where different research projects of the University of Oulu will be showcased. Science Garden serve as a meeting point for the scientific community, sustainable development, green companies and visitors. Free entrance

No winter maintenance in the outdoor garden.

The botanical garden is an excellent place for all ages to learn and enjoy the diversity of plants. In every season there is something new to find.

Seed exchange

We supply wild plant seeds and cuttings collected from Northern Finland and Lapland for international seed exchange.

Research

In its research activities, the Botanical Garden is primarily a research support unit whose mission is to provide living plant material, breeding facilities and practical assistance to researchers and students.
