The application for rector opens – event for the university community on August 22

In its meeting on May 28, 2024, the board of the University of Oulu has decided on the job description of the university rector for the term 2025–2029, as well as the selection procedure and the participation of the university community.

The application period opens at the beginning of June and ends at the end of July. The selection process proceeds in stages so that the board makes a selection decision approximately in September-October.

An event will be organized for the entire university community on Thursday, August 22, 2024, where the community can get to know the top applicants and their views. Save the date in your calendar now! More detailed information about the event will be announced in early August.

On the same day, the university collegium and the board of the student union meet the applicants and get to ask them questions. The board asks the university collegium and the board of the student union to submit their written assessment of the top applicants and their strengths in relation to the set criteria.

The board decided to interview Professor Jukka Kömi and Professor Antti Niemi for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Technology and make a selection decision after the interviews.

The board decided to launch a search for a research dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The term of the research dean starts on September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible after this and is four years long.

In addition, the board of directors

  • discussed articles 10 and 11 of university regulations (rector and vice-rector) and decided not to make any changes to them
  • approved the work orders of the committee preparing the election of the rector and the finance committee
  • decided that the university will invest 4 million euros to the Nordea SIF Global Private Equity Fund
  • decided to deal with the establishment of a Teaching service center and a Learning service center at its September meeting
  • heard the rector's review
  • heard the finance committee's report and the finance director's review.

In addition to the actual meeting, the board had a lunch meeting with representatives of the student union.
