The Board of Directors decided to interview three applicants for the position of Rector

In its meeting on August 15, 2024, the Board of Directors of the University of Oulu decided to invite three applicants for interviews for the position of Rector. The following candidates have been invited to the interviews: Vice Rector, Professor Mika Hannula, Professor Helka-Liisa Hentilä, and Vice Rector Arto Maaninen.

Candidates for Rector are required to hold a doctoral degree, have the necessary skills and professional competence for the role, and good leadership skills demonstrated in practice. When selecting the interviewees, the board evaluated the applicants' eligibility, skills and experience based on the application documents. According to the Universities Act, the administrative language of the University of Oulu is Finnish, and the selected Rector must have excellent proficiency in both Finnish and English, as well as sufficient proficiency in Swedish.

The Board will interview the Rector candidates on August 22. As part of the selection process, the Board will host a live webcast for the university community on August 22 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, where the community can meet the applicants. The candidates will introduce themselves, respond to questions posed to them, and take a stance on current topics. The university community has been invited to submit questions for the Rector candidates. In addition, the University Collegium and the Student Union Board will meet the candidates on August 22.

The Board of Directors also decided on the framework of questions for the interviews. The interviews will be conducted with the support of IMS Talent Oy.

A total of 20 individuals applied for the position of Rector. The Board of Directors will select the Rector for the term starting on January 1, 2025, during the autumn.
