Interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity in the spotlight – a conference held for the first time in the Nordic countries takes over the University of Oulu on June 4–6, 2025
Interdisciplinary work is not always simple. Different disciplines have widely differentiated and very detailed methods, theories, and also separate working and teaching cultures. Learning to work effectively across disciplines requires dialogue and education.
This is the second time that the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies will organise its annual conference in Europe. The upcoming conference is the first of its kind in the Nordic countries. The 47th annual scientific conference will bring together multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and citizen science practitioners, researchers, educators, and funders to engage in dialogue.
The theme of the 2025 conference is ‘Shaping the Future in the Era of Polycrisis.’ At the University of Oulu, the organisation of the conference is supported by the centres for multidisciplinary research, a total of six multidisciplinary research programmes, the Thule Institute, the University of Oulu Graduate School, the Noste Education Development Program, the European University UNIC, and the Unit for Strategy and Science Policy.
The conference registration and session call are now open.
