Join our awesome group of volunteer students at the World Congress of Environmental History and earn course credits!
Held every five years, the congress will bring around 600 environmental researchers in the social sciences and humanities from all over the world to our university. The organizing committee of the congress now invites students to join the organizers of the biggest and most international event in this dynamic and important field!
The congress welcomes as assistants all undergraduate and post-graduate (Master’s and PhD) students at the University of Oulu. Help is needed throughout the conference with various tasks such as helping at the registration desk, technical assistance with Zoom (the conference is organized as a hybrid event), guidance of the conference guests at the campus, and social media work. In addition to the actual conference dates themselves, the student volunteers are asked to participate in a few training days in May and August (specific dates TBC) and carry out some preparatory tasks during those days.
The student volunteers are offered full, gratis access to the entire conference programme at the university, access to lunches and coffee breaks of the congress, and entry to the closing conference party at Nallikari on the evening of August 22nd. Assisting in the conference is possible to earn credits under the course ”Transdisciplinary approaches to human-environment interaction research and conference organizing”, which is worth 5 ECTS. The course credits can be registered to a wide scale of alternative codes in several disciplines across the Faculties of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Education and Psychology. (Full list and more detailed information of the course can be found here https://opas.peppi.oulu.fi/fi/opintojakso/687246A/7802?period=2023-2024 )
To apply for admission to the course or for assisting in general, all you need to do is write a short motivation letter and email it to the course coordinator, Eeva Kuikka (eeva.kuikka@oulu.fi) by February 29th, 2024. She is also happy to answer any inquiries concerning the conference or the course.
