Rector candidates introduced to the university community – the Board invites all three for leadership assessment
After the interviews, the rector candidates introduced themselves to the university community via a webcast. The candidates began with their own introductory speeches, responded to questions posed to them, and in their closing remarks, summarised why they would be a good choice as the next Rector of the University of Oulu. The university community had submitted close to 500 questions in advance for the candidates, which were used both in the webcast and provided to the candidates for their preparation.
The discussion themes focused on promoting the high international quality of research at the University of Oulu, increasing the quality of education and the number of degrees completed within the target timeframe, as well as addressing the university’s major strategic challenges and potential solutions. The recording of the event is available for the university community to view until 29 August.
In addition to individual interviews and the webcast, the rector candidates met with the Board of Directors, the University Collegium, and the Board of the Student Union in a joint session. The discussion topics and questions during the session were based on themes proposed by these bodies. The University Collegium and the Board of the Student Union have the opportunity to provide their views on the candidates to support the University Board’s decision-making process.
The Board of Directors will select the new Rector for a five-year term starting on 1 January 2025, during the autumn.
