Suggest questions for applicants for the position of rector
The proposals will be utilized in an event organized for the university community on August 22, 2024. The proposed questions will be delivered to the Board, the University Collegium, and the Student Union Board and to the candidates selected to participate the event.
Staff and students can propose questions by participating in the survey "What would you like to ask the applicants for the position of rector?" To participate in the survey, staff and students will receive a personal survey link in their email (firstname.lastname@oulu.fi or firstname.lastname@student.oulu.fi). Despite the personal survey link, the proposals are collected anonymously and the respondents' email addresses are not stored in the survey response data. The survey is open from 1.8.-11.8.2024. Participation in the survey is voluntary.
The selected candidate for the Rector position is required to have a doctoral degree, the ability and professional skills needed for the role, and good leadership skills proven in practice. Excellent proficiency in Finnish and English is required, as well as sufficient proficiency in Swedish. Additional language skills are considered as an advantage.
In addition to the duties specified in the Universities Act and the University of Oulu's regulations, the key tasks and objectives for the Rector in the upcoming term include:
- Promoting high international standards in research and education, as well as societal impact
- Ensuring the long-term balance of the University of Oulu's finances and funding
- Promoting collaboration and good governance within the university community
- Promoting the competencies and well-being of staff
- Enhancing the vitality and regional development of Northern Finland.
To succeed in the role, the Board expects the selected candidate to have the following experience and skills:
- Experience in successful and inclusive leadership of large expert organizations
- Strong financial competence and knowledge of university administration and funding
- Strong competence and networks in research and education, and visions for the future
- Diverse experience and networks in society and business
- Excellent interaction, communication, and presentation skills
- Relevant international experience for the role.
