Two service centres to be established for the support of students and teaching

The University of Oulu will establish two service centres, one providing services for students and the other for teaching. These centres are expected to start operating at the beginning of 2025. The new centres highlight the importance of excellent student experience and high-quality teaching at the university. The Board of Directors of the University of Oulu decided on the establishment of the centres on 26 September 2024.

The service centre for supporting teaching will offer pedagogical support, promote the continuous improvement of education quality, and coordinate activities intended for teachers and degree programme coordinators. Compared to the current situation, the centre will compile functions related to the development of teaching into one place, improving the management and development of these functions.

The student service centre will support students in study skills and well-being. The centre aims to improve teaching and study guidance services, ensuring that the student perspective is better considered.

Both centres will operate under the Vice Rector for Education. The centres will work closely together and utilise both internal and external knowledge in developing their operations and services.

Recruitment for the directors of the centres will begin as soon as possible. The change plans will be discussed in the units in accordance with the Agreement on Cooperation at the University of Oulu 2022. The rector will decide on the implementation of the change after these discussions.

In the preparation of the operational plans of the centres, experts will be consulted and the knowledge gained from the Noste and Digivisio projects will be utilised. Involving staff and students is an essential part of the planning.
