Project description

The aim of the project is to support the competence management and change management capabilities of the frontline managers of aged care organizations in the change processes related to the utilization of digital applications, in the context of activities that promote rehabilitation. The aim is also to develop the competence of line managers in the systematic development of employees' digital skills and in improving the sense of community and learning atmosphere in the organization. With the development of competence, the aim is to improve the stability and availability of personnel in aged care, as well as to improve the occupational well-being of immediate managers and the entire staff of the aged service organization. The project's target group includes line managers working in aged care organizations in Lapland and North Ostrobothnia. The indirect target groups include social and health care professionals working with the elderly.

The project will develop a new management tool for frontline managers, which will help to describe and assess the level of digital skills and development needs of the staff of services for the aged in the context of activities that promote the rehabilitation of the aged. In addition, the project will support the activities of line managers in the communal development of the learning atmosphere, test new kinds of peer support operating methods in management to utilize digital solutions in the everyday work of the aged, and create conditions for the improvement of the well-being of line managers at work through the development of competence management related to the management of digital changes.

The project involves the University of Lapland (the main implementer), Lapland University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Oulu.

Project results

The result is new management skills in digital transformation processes and competence management skills in aged care. The result is a new kind of competence management competence for line managers in the utilization of technology, a management tool for assessing and developing the digital competence of social and health care professionals in aged care, and a more positive learning atmosphere in aged care organizations towards the utilization of technology. With the project, new technology-related experiments will be launched in the target organizations, and ongoing experiments will be systematically taken forward.

The long-term result is that as the leadership of immediate managers in change processes is strengthened, their own and their organizations' employees' digital competence and well-being at work improve. The strengthening management competence of the change processes related to digital solutions promotes the appropriate and cost-effective gradation of care in services for the aged, as the use of technology promotes the maintenance of the functional ability of the aged for as long as possible. In the long term, the attractiveness of aged care in the target organizations will also increase, and the commitment of existing employees will be strengthened and the number of people leaving elsewhere will decrease.
