Inorganic Side Streams and Cements
Our research focuses on in-depth characterization and processing of inorganic side streams and utilizing them mainly in cementitious applications. We have state-of-the-art chemical laboratory for material research and for investigating fresh and hardened properties of cement pastes and mortars.

Research group description
We create scientific understanding which improves the utilization potential of side streams. This will enable low-CO2, resource efficient, and environmentally sustainable society. Currently, our research includes the investigation and reuse of various industrial inorganic side streams such as slags, ashes, and mineral wastes. Particular focus is on reactivity of side streams for which we investigate solution chemistry, surface chemistry, and silicate surface-organic ligand interactions. The main target applications are supplementary cementitious materials, alkali-activated materials, clinkers, and ceramics.
