Anna Tervasmäki
PhD
Postdoctoral researcher
Anna Tervasmäki works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu. Her main research is focused on hereditary breast cancer in the Laboratory of Cancer Genetics and Tumor Biology.
She has versatile expertise in various molecular biology methods, ranging from PCR-based assays and Sanger sequencing to next-generation sequencing approaches, and from molecular cloning to CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing and cell culture.
Aim of her current research is to identify hereditary breast cancer susceptibility gene mutations in Northern Finnish population and to further estimate their impact on uncontrolled cell division and tumorigenesis. The results increase the understanding of breast cancer etiology and may later benefit in earlier diagnosis, genetic counseling and in the development of more targeted treatments.
