Jarkko Impola is a doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, University of Oulu. He is preparing his Doctoral dissertation titled 'The Problem of Time in Higher Education Theory, Policy, and Practice' in the Theory and Philosophy of Education (TheorEd) research group.
The project works intends to evaluate temporal politics of contemporary higher education institutions on levels of theory and practice. These have to do with acceleration of higher education processes, temporal structuring of education systems, especially by means of curriculum, and the use of time-based academic credit systems (ACS), such as the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Examining higher education institution's and teachers' ways of determining time for studies and their relation to students' ways of allocating time between study, work, and other parts of their time budget are central to the project especially in terms of their potential influences to students' workload and academic achievement.
The project is supported by Kone Foundation between 3/2023-3/2026.
