My research examines carbon cycling and balance in northern peatland ecosystems by integrating atmospheric CO₂ and CH₄ fluxes with water-transported carbon to develop a comprehensive net ecosystem carbon balance. I focus on the interactions between vertical and lateral carbon fluxes, using high-frequency monitoring techniques and process-based ecosystem models. I am particularly interested in the role of winter periods and extreme events in shaping these dynamics and influencing the sink-source functioning of wetlands.
