Doctoral researcher
Xin Yue focuses on the molecular structure and chemical composition of lignin extracted or pretreated using deep eutectic solvents (DES). The highly complex and irregular structure, the diverse and unique chemical reactivity, and the variable structural linkages make lignin difficult to process in a standardized and predictable way. Lignin currently has a relatively narrow range of applications compared to other biopolymers. Effective and economical methods for processing lignin into valuable and useful forms are still to be developed. The research aims to improve lignin extraction, purification, and modification procedures to obtain structurally well-defined lignin using mild DESs, and to seek high-value applications and markets for lignin-based products.
