Business Model Conference 2025

The Business Model Conference will be held in Finland for the first time. The conference theme is Transformative Power of Technology in Shaping Sustainable Business Models.

The Business Model Conference orchestrates a friendly and supportive community for the scholars in the field. It brings together entrepreneurs and academic scholars, thereby serving as a platform where research meets practice. The Business Model Conference is combined with a PhD workshop, which provides PhD students an opportunity to engage with established business model researchers for knowledge exchange.

Call for papers

The Business Model Conference 2025 invites academics, industry leaders, and innovators to submit papers exploring the transformative power of technology in shaping sustainable business models. Held in Oulu, Finland, a global leader in the telecom industry and sustainable tech solutions, this conference will be a platform to showcase how advancements are driving a more responsible and prosperous future and how the advancements of the Metaverse enable low-carbon futures.

We are particularly interested in submissions that address:

  • How emerging technologies (e.g., AI, blockchain, IoT) are enabling sustainable business models
  • The role of technology in promoting circular economy principles
  • Leveraging tech to achieve carbon neutrality and resource efficiency
  • Designing tech-driven solutions for sustainable supply chain management
  • The impact of technological advancements on stakeholder engagement in sustainability
  • Case studies of businesses successfully using technology to achieve sustainability goals
  • Exploring the Ethical Considerations of technology-enabled models of Sustainability
  • Building resilient and scalable tech-based solutions for a sustainable future
  • Business models for metaverse and Society 5.0 enablement

Submission guidelines

We welcome submissions in the form of short papers (3-4,000 words) as set out by the Journal of Business Models. All submissions will undergo a blind peer-review process.

Deadline for submission of short papers and extended abstracts via the Journal of Business Models submission platform: 1 April

Notification of acceptance: 15 April

Registration: Early bird closes 25 April 2025, registration deadline 15 May 2025

Main conference: 11 and 12 June, 2025

Welcome reception: 11 June

Conference dinner: 12 June

PhD colloquium: 10 June 2025

Deadline for PhD colloquium participation 1 May

PhD students interested in participating in the Colloquium should submit a 2-page abstract of their PhD proposal by 1 May 2025 to bmc2025@oulu.fi

Registration fees:

  • 590 euros Early bird rate (closes at midnight on 25 April 2025)
  • 670 euros Standard rate (from 26 April 2025)
  • 400 euros Doctoral Colloquium participants only (register by 15 May 2025)

Travel to Oulu

By plain:

The Oulu Airport is located approximately 15 kilometers south of the city center. It offers regular Finnair flights (~ 1h) from Helsinki. There is also a direct connection from Munich to Oulu, operated by Lufthansa (only on Tuesdays and Saturdays).

Transportation from Oulu Airport:

Taxi: Taxis are readily available at the airport. The journey to city centre takes about 15-20 minutes.

Bus: The local bus service connects the airport to the city center. The trip takes around 30-40 minutes.

By train:

Oulu is well connected by train, with regular services from Helsinki (~ 6-8h) and other major cities. The railway station is located in the heart of the city. Taxis are available outside the station for a quick transfer to your hotel.

By bus:

Oulu is also accessible via long-distance bus services from various cities across Finland. The main bus station is also centrally located.
