MAI Joins the 5G-EMERGE Project to Drive Innovation in Media Delivery

The 5G-EMERGE project, funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and led by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), is entering its second phase. MAI is contributing to this phase by researching market trends, business models, and ecosystems to support the adoption of new technologies.

5G-EMERGE aims to integrate satellite and terrestrial networks to enable efficient, high-quality content distribution. By leveraging telecommunications satellites, the project brings high-demand media content as close as possible to users—whether in homes, vehicles, or neighborhood base stations. The second phase, from 4Q 2024 to 4Q 2026, will introduce direct-to-device multicast and broadcast services. Besides aiming at optimizing existing solutions, integration with upcoming 5G NR-NTN networks will be investigated.

MAI’s role is to analyze market dynamics and business opportunities that will help accelerate the commercialization of 5G-EMERGE solutions. By providing insights into ecosystem development and adoption strategies, MAI contributes to positioning Europe at the forefront of next-generation media delivery.

More information about the project is available on 5G-EMERGE website.
