Fonts

The typographic palette of the university consists of three primary type families: The Messina Serif, The Messina Sans and The Brooklyn.

Messina Serif

The Messina Serif type family works well in body copy. It also makes beautiful headlines where elegance and dignity are sought.

Messina Sans

The Messina Sans is an all-around workhorse type family, equally capable of producing impressive headlines as well as carrying out longer body copy tasks.

Brooklyn

The Brooklyn font family is reserved solely for logos and slogans. A version specifically modified for the University’s sole use has been created, titled “Oulu Brooklyn”. This features a U -character different from the original.

Subsidiary fonts

As the brand typefaces may not be available a set of subsidiary fonts have been selected to replace the brand typefaces:

  • The Times New Roman type family is used to replace Messina Serif in applications such as PowerPoint and Word. It is, in practice, available on all computers.
  • The Arial type family replaces Messina Sans when it is not available.

Use the corresponding weights in substitution.
